I don't have anyone I can consider to be "the one".
The one who ironed out the wrinkles of life so I can go on smooth sailing. The one I would look at and wish I can give them a child. The one I could imagine in some fantasy of a future, if only love were linear and life worked out differently. The one that got away.
The worst part about it is it's not even because I've fallen in love with terrible, horrible people. No one just.. ever felt like the right fit. I stay there feeling either overwhelmed or underwhelmed, fighting the urge to give in to my flight response.
It's honestly kind of a painful thing to admit — to myself and out loud. Because it reflects the relationships I chose, and the decisions that led me here. A mirror showing what I thought of myself, and a window anyone could look through to see exactly what I believed I deserved.
And while they brought me immense bursts of happiness, I also spent most of it feeling.. profoundly unstable, as if in a constant wait for the other shoe to drop.
So maybe, somewhere deep down, I convinced myself it was easier this way — to stay untouched by the kind of love that brings me peace, so I never risk losing something I never had.
But there are moments where I still feel it — that small, stubborn yearning. The one that whispers maybe. Maybe one day, I’ll feel it and it’s going to be.. just right. Maybe then I’ll let myself be seen, to stay, to be someone’s “the one”.
