Safety in scents - 25 March 2026
Hello mga sad girls 👋
In light of the recent conversation about safety in fragrance in the past few days, I wanted to take a moment to better understand the issue before speaking about it.
sad girl scents is very personal to me and that’s why I take this issue seriously. You deserve to feel confident and informed when you’re using our products so I wanted to share the steps we’re taking:
- We’re conducting independent third-party testing with our control samples. While our supplier has confirmed that the batches we’ve sourced meet safety standards (see photo below), I felt it is important to verify this ourselves as well – for your peace of mind and ours.

- I’m also taking this time to review our internal processes and see where we can continue to improve and strengthen them. This is an ongoing effort but it’s something I’m committed to working on step by step.
sad girl scents is not just a passion project for me to tell stories. I’m also the first (and probably biggest) consumer of everything we make and it’s deeply integrated into my daily life. It’s important to me that these are products I feel completely safe using and sharing with my family and closest friends.
For full transparency:
- We use ethyl alcohol (ethanol) made of sugarcane extract for our perfumes. We do not use methanol.
- We make everything in very small batches by hand. We restock a maximum of 500g of perfume per scent at a time, usually a maximum of twice per quarter for our bestsellers (less for the rest).
- We only purchase what we need for each production run, so we can store everything properly and avoid unnecessary waste.
We work only with long-standing, trusted suppliers, and I would never knowingly use ingredients that could be harmful. That same standard guides everything we put out.
I know trust is something that’s earned continuously, and never something to take for granted. I am extremely grateful for the trust and support you have given us over the years, and I will always work to be worthy of it.
Trisha, sad girl scents
